Day 8, Tuesday, July 26th

Another early start today.  The construction crew made good progress on the sprinklers yesterday.  They finished and tested the line in front of and along the west side of the church building this morning.  Progress continued today with installation of sprinklers along the sidewalk.

Randy, Keith and Gary check the slope of the trench while LeRoy & Jim take a needed break from the heat.

Our afternoon activity consisted of a trip to Mesa Verde National Park.  Wow, what a trip!
The view up was beautiful with a winding road.

The walk up was definitely harder than going down.

But, watch your step!  The crows are waiting in the treetops.

Great story here.  Gary took this picture.  He sent the picture and the following email message to his family.

"Caught a rare glimpse of this on our afternoon excursion to Mesa Verde National Park.  Thank goodness for the zoom lens.  Saw it lying under a rock overhang near the cliff dwellings".

Well, most everyone believed the story, especially Gary's daughter, Lisa.  She posted the picture on Facebook and said, "My dad took this picture.  How freakin' cool".  We all had a good laugh!

Well, the afternoon was coming to an end.  The trip down was just as beautiful as the trip up.  Winding road and all.  Some of the pictures show burnt trees where fire swept through several years ago.

The day was not quite over.  After our evening meal, several members went to the Cortez Cultural Center to listen to a member of the Navajo Code Talkers from World War II give a talk about his experience as a Code Talker.
It was very interesting to hear and Steve had him sign his book.  The gentleman pointed out his picture to Steve.
